Recreate the comforting taste of Cracker Barrel's classic Meatloaf right in your own kitchen with this easy-to-follow, home-cook friendly recipe.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup, or lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan if preferred for a more uniform shape.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to soften and absorb the milk.
Add the ground beef, finely diced yellow onion, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the breadcrumb mixture.
Using your hands, gently mix all ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to a tough meatloaf. The mixture should still be somewhat loose.
Shape the meat mixture into an oblong loaf (approximately 9x5 inches) on the prepared baking sheet. If using a loaf pan, gently press the mixture into the pan.
In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, light brown sugar, yellow mustard, and apple cider vinegar until well combined. This is your signature glaze.
Spread about half of the glaze evenly over the top and sides of the meatloaf.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the remaining glaze evenly over the top. This two-stage glazing helps build a flavorful crust.
Return to the oven and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) is reached. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and flavorful slice.
